Training in nursing best practices and prevention of healthcare-associated infections: documentary analysis
Publicado
2026-07-08

Introduction: Healthcare-associated infections remain a persistent and preventable challenge that prolongs stays, increases costs and strains health systems, demanding sustained nursing best practices where guidance is widely available. Evidence exists, yet translation into everyday routines remains uneven across settings and teams. Objective: To analyze nursing best practices aimed at preventing healthcare-associated infections from an educational-documentary perspective, in order to understand the transfer of theoretical knowledge into clinical praxis. Methodology: A qualitative descriptive-analytical documentary study was conducted with N=28 sources published from 2020 to April 2026, retrieved from PubMed, Scopus, SciELO and LILACS, plus WHO, PAHO, CDC and Ecuadorian MSP regulations; open and axial coding was applied through a four-axis matrix. Results: Effectiveness depends on the articulation of training, experiential learning and organizational conditions; standardized interventions reduce infections; gaps persist from traditional models; multimodal education with simulation improves adherence; the institution functions as a learning ecosystem. Conclusion: Continuous training integrated into practice and sustained organizationally strengthens patient safety culture.
